Leveraging the global cellular network and retaining connectivity over large distances is a critical requirement for today’s IOT devices. Whether it be remote monitoring of equipment, sending periodic packets of data or providing mission critical video connectivity, the demands for reliability are increasing exponentially.
At GTT Wireless we pride ourselves in being able to adapt our product offer to accommodate these increasing demands, be it for high performance antenna design, low-loss antenna cables or simply long-term reliability in the field.
Optimize your antenna performance – know the facts!
Antenna efficiency
Antenna efficiency is one of the key criteria when selecting an antenna, but strangely, very few antenna manufacturers specify this on their datasheets. This is not only because efficiency levels vary hugely across the antenna’s tuned spectrum, but in many cases their antenna efficiency is quite often very low. An antenna with low efficiency is one to be avoided
Antenna efficiency – know the facts
At GTT Wireless we measure the antenna efficiency of our entire antenna range in an anechoic chamber, powering the antenna and measuring the strength of the radiated electromagnetic field in the surrounding space. A good antenna, in general, radiates 50 – 60 % of the energy fed to it. Many antennas in the market struggle to achieve 40% efficiency whilst GTT Wireless antennas far exceed this and it is not uncommon to see our efficiencies running upwards of 80% efficient. Having high efficiency is even more important in wideband LTE applications.
Next time you are looking for an antenna … ask for the antenna efficiency at the frequencies of your application
Attenuation (loss of signal)
Attenuation is the loss of signal strength experienced by installers in their network installations. Signal strength is typically measured in decibels (dBi) within RF applications and it can be affected by a variety of factors … however the main impact on performance is signal loss in cables.
See for yourself …
In the tables below, find the cable loss for your installation and compare this with your existing cable supplier. A typical 10 m antenna cable will reduce the antenna gain by at least 6dBi. The greater the frequency, the high the attenuation. The thinner the cable, the higher the attenuation,
